We had such an amazing time at this year’s festival we can’t wait to do it all over again, so we are now OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS! We are continuing to develop our feature film strand, and are now accepting feature film submissions. Tell your family, friends and pets.

How to submit to Underwire 2017

  • Underwire looks to showcase all kinds of film – we accept drama, animation, documentary, music video and artists’ film of all production techniques, forms and budgets.
  • We’re only accepting online screeners via FilmFreeway.
  • We accept short films (up to 20mins) and feature films (at least 60 minutes long).
  • All short film entries must be:
    • Up to 20 minutes long including credits (20 minutes must be the maximum length of the short)
    • Short films directed by men are eligible for submission, so long as there is a female head of department in any of the Awards categories and/or there is a female protagonist onscreen.
    • Films must have been completed since November 2015
    • Filmmakers must be British or Irish nationals and/or the film must be a UK or Republic of Ireland production, including student/graduation films.
    • Regular deadline for submissions for all films is 31st May 2017 (submission fee: £10) and the late deadline is 30th June 2017 (submission fee: £15).
  • All feature film entries must be:
    • Directed by a woman
    • Filmmakers must be British or Irish nationals and/or the film must be a UK or Republic of Ireland production, including student/graduation films.
    • The film must be the first or second feature film made by the director.
    • Regular deadline for submissions for all films is 31st May 2017 (submission fee: £15) and the late deadline is 30th June 2017 (submission fee: £20).
